Careful. We don’t want to learn from this. – Bill Watterson
I should be finishing up on a paper but I just wanted to write about an awesome opportunity I was given over the weekend. A friend of mine that I work with, Dana, knows the people over at Y Combinator fairly well and told them that she would help with the Startup School 2008. Dana asked me if I wanted to help and I agreed. (So, if any of you went I was the guy with the shaved head at the registration desk.) It was really cool to be able to talk to Paul Graham, Paul Buchheit, and Peter Norvig whom all gave talks at the event. I also met Trevor Blackwell, the creator of Anybots. His office is down the street from my work and he said it would be cool if I stop by and check stuff out. His technology is so amazing that I am looking forward to the chance to do so. Paul Graham was also interesting to talk to, but from a different angle. He has lots of knowledge and it’s cool to be able to listen to some of it.
I’ve always felt that the best way to become a truly great person is to surround yourself with other great people, and I definitely felt surrounded by great people over the weekend. I hope I get more chances in the future.
